Terry Brooks, one of my favorite authors, writes fantasy,
and has been doing so since 1983 with the publication of Sword of Shannara. He
has published about seven series from the world of Shannara running three to
four volumes each. The Shannara saga follows the Ohmsford family who possesses
magical powers, and with the help of the elves keeps Shannara safe from evil.
He has also written the Magic Kingdom of Landover series
comprised of five volumes. This
series depicts a Chicago lawyer that decides to change careers after his wife
and child died. He buys the
Kingdom of Landover; not realizing it is in another time and place. Landover is a mystical place with
magic, elves, and all manner of creatures. While Shannara represents high fantasy, Magic Kingdom
of Landover is a more whimsical view of the fantasy genre.
In addition to his two series, Terry Brooks has also written
two stories for the movies. Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, and Hook – the Peter Pan adaptation.
