The Florida Book Awards were first awarded in 2006. The 2007 awards banquet was held in conjunction with the Florida Library Association's annual meeting. The awards honor writers that live in Florida, and writers of Nonfiction books about Florida. The Florida Book Awards have seven catagories: 1. General Fiction, 2. Young Adult Literature, 3. Children's Literature, 4. Florida Nonfiction, 5. Poetry, 6. Popular Fiction, and 7. Spanish Language Book. This site will list only three categories - General Fiction, Popular Fiction, and Florida Nonfiction. To obtain a full list of the awards visit the Florida Book Awards website.

General Fiction - must be written by a Florida author with a Minimum 40,000 words, and can include short story collections.
