CarpeBiblio Author Services Fees
Fees will vary by project and the complexity of your needs.
Free quotes are provided for your project. Instructions and information about
the fee structure, obtaining quotes, and payment are detailed.
Bibliographic Services:
Bibliographic services will range from basic proofreading and format
verification to creation of the bibliography. Bibliographic citation format is
verified using your specified style guide.
Basic Proofreading & Format
Verification: $2.50 per page of bibliography. Minimum charge $10.00 to cover
administrative expenses. If we are providing the complete manuscript editing
and proofreading, this service is included in the editing and proofreading
fees.
Creation of Bibliography: $0.15-$.25
per entry depending upon complexity of the bibliography. Minimum charge $15.00
to cover administrative expenses. Complex texts or texts requiring non-standard
citation formatting require more work than basic trade publications or
textbooks.
Editing &
Proofreading Services: Editing and proofreading fees range from $0.012-$0.015
per word (slightly more than 1 cent per word – for example, if your book is
50,000 words, the fee is between $600 and $750). Complex texts require more time
and work than basic trade publications. If your work only needs the final
proofreading the fee is $0.012 per word.
Indexing Services:
Indexing fees are a based on a “per page” rate, ranging from $2.50 to $5.00 per
indexable page.
An indexable page is any page of
the book that carries potential information, including pictures, figures, or
graphs for the index.
Front and back matter are generally
not considered indexable unless you request that they be indexed. Blank pages
and section separators are not considered indexable.
The following factors are
considered when preparing a quote for book indexing:
- Academic,
reference, and research texts require indexes that are equal in importance to
the textual content of the work; the time and work involved in preparing the
index is greater than a simpler text.
- Difficult
and complex texts usually require more index entries per page than simpler
texts.
- Indexing
of graphics, tables, and figures will require more time to index.
- Foreign
language text and terms may require more time to index. (NOTE: We are not able
to index foreign language texts; all texts must be in English, though we can
work with limited foreign language terms.)
- The
length and space requirements for the text can be a factor in determining fees.
- The
number of indexes required will be a factor.
- The
time allowed for writing the index can be a factor. Rush rates may apply to the
overall fees.
Research & Fact
Checking Services: Research and fact checking fees are based on a “per
hour” rate, ranging from $30.00 to $60.00 per hour plus cost recovery. A
minimum fee of $30.00 is charged for administrative expenses.
The following factors are
considered when preparing quotes for research and fact checking:
- Academic,
reference, and research texts require access to more specialized and complex
resources. They also require more time and work than a simpler text.
- Difficult
and obscure topics require significantly more time and work to research than
more common ones.
- Complex
research requires specialized skills and knowledge of resources.
A detailed research log and report
will be provided to you as part of the research and fact checking services.
Cost recovery may include the
following:
- Photocopying
and/or printing of articles, records, documents, etc.
- Fees
for obtaining articles, records, documents, etc. (Note: In most instances we
will provide you with the information for obtaining the materials yourself
unless you specify otherwise in your instructions.)
- Postage
and shipping
- Mileage
($0.445 per mile – travel within the State of Florida only) if personal visits
to libraries, archives, etc., are required to obtain materials. (NOTE: In most
instances we will provide you with the location and information for obtaining
the materials yourself.)
A detailed expense log will be
provided to you as part of the research and fact checking services.
Deposits & Payment
All jobs quoted at $1,000 or higher will require a 20% deposit
to secure our services.
Payment is preferred through PayPal. If you need to pay by
check, we only accept money orders or cashier’s checks.
Payment is expected within 30 days of completion of your
project. Copyrights for indexes and bibliographies will not be transferred
until payment in full is received.
