| The American Library Association's Notable Book Awards |
The American Library Association has been compiling a list of Notable Books since 1944. The list contains 25 books in the categories of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. The selection counsel consists of twelve librarians. They select books that exhibit “exceptional literary merit; expand the horizon of human knowledge; make a specialized body of knowledge accessible to the non-specialist; promise to contribute significantly to the solution of a contemporary problem.
